Rituals & Traditions of Mehdudia Print E-mail
Rituals & Traditions
  1. It is our request since our Jatheri was not married at the time of Sati, she should be referred to as Shri Jatheri Devi and not as Mata.
  2. At the time of any function in the family first purchase should be made of Mata ki Chunni (dupatta) for Chintpurni Mata and Chuuni for Jatheri Devi and then other purchases should be done.
  3. Since at the time of the death of the Mehdudia boy to whom our Jatheri Devi was engaged Kul Prohit had not accompanied our Jatheri Devi even on her request, so at the time of Sati she had disallowed all prohits to visit her temple.
  4. At Jatheri Devi Temple Kanya Pujan is not performed instead married ladies (suhagaan) from that area are worshipped by our ladies and there blessings are sought.
  5. Daughters of Mehdudia’s are requested not to enter the temple complex.
  6. Parshad offerings should be made in the shape of Halwa (kaddai)/ Barfi/ Ladoo of Suji and Beasan along with sprouted black grams (Kala Channa). Sprouted grams are offered for the prosperity of the Mehdudia parivar.
  7. It is believed that your first visit to Jatheri Devi Temple should be with the eldest member of the family.
  8. Before child birth Panjeri is made without Sundh (dry ginger powder). The mother is given loose panjeri. After child birth Sundh is added and the mother is given sundh in loose form only and not ladoo shape.
  9. Behaian are made from cow dung and panch rattan is added according to the count of number of male members in the family on the occasion of marriage or mundane in the family they are placed in the Pooja and immersed in running water after completion of the function.
  10. Dhera is not made at the time of marriages. To worship the Jatheri three earthen pots containing wheat, whole urd dal and gur or rice are placed one on top of the other and the top most pot is covered with a lid (malli) after the function the contents are donated.
  11. At the time of marriage Rehda is made but Gota Jari is not affixed on it, color of rehda is green or red only.
  12. Tilak tikka is not made at home for any function but a non Mehdudia family can make it for you at his house and send it for your use.
  13. At the time of Padyari (first visit after every function in the family) one must spend one night. Padyari is to be given at Jatheri Devi, Baba Balak Nath and Mata Chintpurni as they are our Kul Dev and Kul Devi.
